Here’s The Life History of Odisha Chief Minister


Mr. Naveen Patnaik, the Indian politician and the 14th Chief minister of Odisha state. He was born to a Karan family on 16th of October, 1946 in Cuttack, Odisha. He is the son to Biju Patnaik, a former Chief Minister of Odisha and his wife, Gyan. The first school he attended was St. Joseph’s Convent in Cuttack. The other schools he attended before pursuing his graduate studies were, The Welham Boys’ School, The Doon School, in Dehradun and Lawrence school in Sanawar. He was thereafter enrolled to the Kirori Mal College of Delhi University where he got his Bachelor of Arts Degree. He is a writer by profession and has published 3 books.

Chief Minister of Odisha

The Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik spent most of his early life out of the state of Odisha. After the passing of his father in 1997, he joined politics and founded the Biju Janata Dal political party which was named after his late father. The Biju Janata Dal political later on formed a coalition with BJP which saw him become Chief Minister after winning the State election in the year 2000. His strong view against corruption and his support for the poor has garnered him immense support in Odisha consequently helping him retain his seat for the last three consecutive terms.

  • He was rated the most popular chief minister of India by the India-ORG-Marg Mood by a national poll taken in the year 2010.
  • He was ranked the second best Chief Minister of India by NDTV Opinion poll carried out in 2010.
  • The United Nations also recognized him for his efforts in the evacuation of almost a million people prior to the occurrence of Cyclone Phailin, a tropical storm that hit Odisha’s coast in October 2013.
